Genovo has developed a game console, called eBox. The company has established a game console company called Beijing eedoo Technology Ltd., which will manage the development of an entertainment console eBox. It will be launch in China by the end of the year. The console was first developed internally by Lenovo.
Lenovo employees built the eBox with Microsoft Kinect-like ontrol scheme that will recognize shapes and movement without the need for a controller. They believes, they will be "the world's second company to produce a controller-free game console, behind only Microsoft.
Lenovo's decision to break into the motion-gaming space with its console isn't much of a surprise. After Nintendo and its Wii enjoyed such success in that space, both Sony and Microsoft announced motion-gaming peripherals--the PlayStation Move and Kinect, respectively--that are scheduled to hit store shelves later this year. It would only make sense that a new entrant into the market would attempt the same strategy.
Lenovo will go head-to-head with the big boys in the video game console market, looking to snatch away market share from the likes of Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony.
The device leverages a user interface and reads user gestures with a webcam.
EBox uses a camera to track player movement, but unlike Nintendo's Wii or Sony's Move system, eBox can plot movements and translate them into onscreen action without the need for a controller.
The company estimates up to 120 million urban families in China are potential buyers of the eBox.
At present, 16 global video game developers have signed contracts to provide content to Beijing eedoo.
Kinect is expected to go on sale in North America this November, with a base price of $149.99 per unit. eBox will also make its debut this November.

Razer BlackWidow ups gaming experience
Here is the latest announcement of the Razer brands "BlackWidow", a mechanical gaming keyboard was specially engineered for gamers who want nothing less than superior tactile feedback and comfort while playing.
When it comes to computer gaming peripherals that are of high quality. Well, the latest device to join the fray would be the Razer BlackWidow. It is interesting to note that from Razer’s point of view, the majority of mechanical keyboards in the market today are standard mechanical keyboards rebadged as gaming keyboards that feature stiff keys that cause key actuation fatigue.
Basically, what Razer is saying is this – such keyboards will leave gamers off for the worse since it decreases gameplay performance instead of enhancing it. Razer’s BlackWidow offers something different, being built from ground up by gamers while boasting a uniquely tactile mechanical key architecture that provides each key on the keyboard with a crisp response and tactile feedback similar to a mouse click. When used in tandem with a unique key actuation point halfway through the full travel distance, the optimized mechanical key structure found in each of the Razer BlackWidow’s keys provide for greater precision and accuracy versus other traditional mechanical keyboards.
The keys on the Razer BlackWidow also boast one of the lightest actuation forces for all keyboards. They have been specially optimized by the Razer design team from readily available components, albeit going through rigorous quality standards from Razer to deliver a product of unparalleled quality. Apart from that, the Razer BlackWidow is also the only mechanical keyboard which comes with fully programmable keys with on-the-fly macro recording, not to mention five additional gaming keys to up the ante when it comes to gaming compatibility and performance. It will be out this September for $79.99.

Zeebo Console
Zeebo announced the launch of the Zeebo console, intended for emerging markets worldwide, specifically BRIC – Brazil, Russia, India, and China, which represents 800 million people.
“In 2000 Bill Gates introduced the original Microsoft Xbox at GDC,” said Mike Yuen. “We’re honored here to release what we believe will be the fourth big console.” Zeebo is based on Qualcomm mobile technology, from the graphics chipset to the 3G wireless network, and has positioned itself as a piracy-free alternative to the larger, more expensive consoles.
In Brazil, for instance, where the console is launching first, a PS3 costs the equivalent of US$1,100 new, and the Wii costs US$1,000, because neither console has officially launched there — the only alternative for those consoles is piracy.
The Zeebo is launching at the equivalent of $199 USD, with games costing in the range of $5 to $15. Games are download-only across a 3G wireless network, which can also be used as a connectivity point for laptops in those homes without internet.
Yuen compared the video game market to the Matterhorn, in that many have died trying to climb it. “Lots of companies have tried to conquer the big three, and died doing it. So, within Qualcomm we’ve been thinking about how we can do this differently, and with cellular technology.”

New PSP has touch-sensitive controls
Sony's current vision for the next-generation PlayStation Portable is roughly the same size as the PSP-3000 and has touch controls on the reverse of the unit.
According to three separate development sources who have seen and used the new PSP, the screen is rich and detailed but the headline feature is the way games are controlled - by a touch-sensitive area on the back of the unit behind the screen.
Sony is showcasing the unfinished handheld to publishers at the moment using several first-party games and has already settled on its business model for the device, which was not shown to the public at gamescom this week.
One source told us he expects it to launch by the end of 2011, although another was less convinced, believing we won't see anything for at least a couple of years. Sony has not specified when it will release a successor to the current platform.
It's thought that Sony considered a disc-based storage solution for the new PSP, but has since decided against it following developer feedback. Flash media support, similar to the PSPgo, seems most likely.
Sony told Eurogamer it "does not comment on rumour and speculation".

Next generation PSP.
Touchscreen controls are nice for some applications but, until someone invents transparent fingers, they're a real bother for gaming. Many, including Apple, have toyed with the idea of putting the touch sensitive sections on the back of the device, and we have strong rumors coming out of Gamescom this week that this is the path Sony is taking for its next-generation PSP.
Now, we've been hearing various rumors about this thing for just about as long as we've known about the first-gen PSP, but Sony is said to be quietly showing off a prototype unit about the size of a PSP-3000.
While everyone agrees about the touch-sensitive portion 'round the back, it's unknown what (if any) physical controls will go along with it. A release date for the thing is also unclear, with some saying next year and others saying it'll be later than that. Whenever it ships we hope it'll do the right thing and finally put the UMD format out of its misery.

World's smallest WiFi module - Sharp DC2J1DZ115
Again, if you think about costs of new technology first, remember that even five years ago things like this won't have been possible (also price-wise). Don't let costs come in the way of good ideas.
Is there a reason for Sharp to boast that its DC2J1DZ115 is the world's smallest WiFi module? After all, unlike the world's smallest MP3 player, this isn't a product consumers can actually buy. However, smaller WiFi modules mean smaller, cheaper (we hope), lower-power WiFi devices, so as far as we're concerned, the smaller the better. Now let's get these modules into cameras, phones, PDAs and DAPs ASAP!
Report Claims SanDisk the No. 2 Seller of MP3 Players
I think that Sandisk is going to hold on to that no. 2 position. DailyTech earlier reported that SanDisk was going to expand its line of MP3 players to include several new flash-based MP3 players. Although the Sansa line will not be released until later next month, Mercury News repots SanDisk has moved into the No. 2 spot in the MP3 player market. The company sold over a million music players in the last holiday quarter, while Apple, the top supplier of MP3 players worldwide, selling 14 million iPods during the holiday period.
It will be interesting to see how Creative responds to SanDisk now being the No. 2 spot.
From my experiencce with my Sansa m250, I can say that they know what a consumer wants. It was on sale at Best Buy for $129, and I see it online for $120-140. This thing has:
-2GB flash memory
-shows up as mass storage drive or recognized as audio player depending on setting on the player
-can use purely as a 2GB USB drive, no software required on winXP
-runs on one regular AAA battery for 19 hours
-FM tuner with 20 presets
-NO synch software required (automatic builds music library from song tags)
-plays mp3 (even high bitrate), wma, wma-drm, and audible
-has MS "Plays for sure" certification
-built-in microphone records 16k WAV files
-sleep timer
-backlight (stops working after battery drops to 33%)
-comes with cheap plastic cover and arm band
-black and white display showing artist/song/album/track no/Kbps
-comes with 8-inch USB cable, perfect for carrying with you
That is pretty much everything one could want in a flash player. The headphones are even decent quality (earbud type). The only negative thing is that it is offically windows only. But since you can make the player act completely like a "mass storage device" flash drive, I assume that it could be made to work with Linux and OSX. But I could be wrong.
Personally, I also wish it had FM recording, so I can record NPR shows (like TOTN: Science Friday). I know that is a very unusual feature. And with more and more shows having podcasts available, it doesn't really matter as much.
World's smallest MP3 Player with Capacity of 2GB
World's smallest MP3 player "mobilBLU" just doubled its storage capacity to 2GB. The world's smallest MP3 player gets a boost in storage capacity. The 0.63 ounce mobilBLU DAH-1500i packs a ton of features into its tiny 0.94^3 frame including FM radio with 20 presets and record function, built-in microphone and voice recorder, OLED display and supports MP3, WMA and secure WMA music formats. It also features SRS WOW audio technology and its tiny lithium-polymer battery is rechargeable via a USB connection.
It is available on Amazon at $159.99 2GB model on pre-order in black, blue and silver. The older 512MB and 1GB models, both exclusive to Wal-Mart.com, were also available in orange, pink and red -- expect to see those show up on the new 2GB player as well in the near future.
Its not that tiny but if you have big fingers it could be a problem. Best thing its a no nononsense USB2 windows XP external drive when you plug it in. I swear it around my neck with my name badge I gotta wear anyways. Plug it in for radio listening during lunch and is an excellent audio recorder for getting those important conversations you don't want to miss.
